Patrick Pouyanné Visits Yamal LNG

  • Patrick Pouyanné visited the Yamal LNG site in northern Russia.
    Launched in late 2013 by Total and Novatek, this liquefied natural gas (LNG) project will have a production capacity of 16.5 million tons per year. Start-up is scheduled for late 2017
  • Cold is Yamal LNG’s biggest challenge.
  • The facilities are being built on permafrost.
  • Each tank is supported by around 950 piles.
    The gas extracted from the South Tambey field is stored in these immense 160,000-cubic-meter tanks after it has been liquefied, until it can be exported by LNG carrier
  • The port is already in operation.
    Because of the extreme cold, Yamal LNG has opted for so-called modular construction. All the heavy or complex equipment modules built outside Russia transit via the port on their way to the site
  • A brand-new airport onsite.
  • The last cold-related challenge is transporting the liquefied gas to its market.
