To meet growing energy demand worldwide while helping fight climate change, Total is focusing on gas. We have been a major global player in liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 40 years and are one of the few industrial companies to have chosen to integrate operations across the entire gas value chain, from production and liquefaction to marketing and distribution to end-customers.
Liquefying natural gas by lowering its temperature to -163°C means that it can be transported on ships, called LNG carriers, and then regasified as near as possible to consumer markets. The flexibility of LNG helps deliver gas to customers all over the world while at the same time securing supply by leveraging the very best of our technological expertise and experience in developing competitive projects. For example, we are working on floating storage regasification units (FSRUs), flexible access points located as near as possible to consumer markets.
With the acquisition of Engie's upstream LNG operations, Total has become the world No. 2 in LNG with a 10% market share. More than just a producer, our Group now has an LNG portfolio that enables it to guarantee flexibility and a competitive edge to its customers.
With LNG, Total is committed to providing its customers all over the world with reliable, affordable and cleaner energy.
