a captain of industry, Émile Guimet quickly stood
out from his contemporaries by focusing on social values
in an era which largely ignored them. At the helm of the
metals firm Péchiney, the entrepreneur from Lyons
started by setting up a fund to compensate victims of
workplace accidents and to provide worker’s pensions,
then began to fund certain schools in the region. |
