The change from the 19th to the 20th century marked a turning point in the history of art and thought: as the automobile, cinema and the first telecommunications took flight, energy and speed were at the heart of the avant-garde. Modern art was born and the Futurist movement heralded a shift in the way the inhabitants of an Earth that suddenly seemed smaller considered time and space. |
