Community engagement

In October 2008, hosted six Elders from the Fort McKay First Nations community on a site tour to witness ancient First Nations artifacts that were found on Total's Joslyn mine lease.

For Total, working in Alberta also supports the Albertan economy. Total E&P Canada will invest more $20 billion dollars in the region and will help to create 1,200 jobs.

The consultation process launched in 2009 has helped us better understand our neighbors’ needs, which mainly relate to the environment, jobs, and local contracts and investment.

Attentive to these needs, we have opened permanent offices in Fort McMurray and Sherwood Park, near Edmonton, to foster daily dialogue.

Total has been present in Alberta since 1999 and mobilized its energies to improve the life of the communities around its projects. Total E&P Canada has already invested more than $5 million to sponsor educational and youth training programs in Fort McMurray, Calgary and Sherwood Park.
