TotalFinaElf announces a significant first oil discovery on Block NC 186 in the Murzuk Basin in Libya, located approximately 800 kilometers south of Tripoli. Partners in the block are TotalFinaElf (24%), Repsol YPF, the operator (32%), OMV (24%) and Saga (20%).

A-1, the first exploration well drilled on Block NC 186, encountered a significant oil column in the Hawaz sandstone formation. Production tests showed a daily flow rate of 2,500 barrels of light oil (API 41°), using a ¾-inch choke.

The A-1 discovery well is situated in the southern part of Block NC 186 about 30 kilometers from the El Sharara field production facilities in Block NC 115 (TotalFinaElf 30%). These facilities were commissioned in 1996 and have sufficient capacity to process and export additional oil output.

This new exploration success confirms TotalFinaElf's commitment to the Libyan oil and gas sector.
