Following the merger of TotalFina and Elf Aquitaine to create the fourth largest oil and gas company, subsidiary companies Total Gas Marketing and Elf Gas and Power Limited have completed the process of merging resources and experience to create a company which is in an even stronger position in the midstream gas activities within Europe. Elf Gas and Power Limited changed its name to TotalFinaElf Gas and Power Limited, as from the 18th August 2000 and the holding company Elf Aquitaine Gas UK Limited also changes its name to TotalFinaElf Gas and Power UK Limited. The business of Total Gas Marketing, will be acquired by TotalFinaElf Gas and Power Limited on 1st October.

TotalFinaElf Gas-Electricity, Trading-Marketing Division is headed up by Bernard de Combret from the Paris Headquarters, whilst Jacques Lafond takes on the role of Senior Vice President - Gas, Electricity, Trading and Marketing based in Cavendish Square, London W1.

M. Lafond joined Total in 1974 and has worked extensively in the USA, Europe and all over Asia. On taking up his new position he said " The European Energy markets offers a number of exciting challenges and it is a great privilege to be working with such a committed and experienced team."

The principal business activities which fall within his remit are;
- Global Trading of Gas and Power and LPG Trading. The main centres of activity are London, Paris and Houston. Other countries will be developed in the future.
-Elf Connect Limited and Elf Pipelines Limited the utility companies within the former Elf Aquitaine Gas UK Limited Group are headed up by Philip Gibb and will continue to offer technical expertise in the design and build of multi-utility infrastructures and the marketing of multi-utility connections to the UK Housing Markets.

Both Elf Connect and Elf Pipelines changed their names on 15 August 2000 to become TotalFinaElf Connect Limited and TotalFinaElf Pipelines Limited. They will continue to be based in Cardiff and the brand name of Connect will remain unchanged.

The TotalFinaElf Head Office for Trading and Marketing will be Cavendish Square in London’s

West End. The UK Marketing Division, whose brand names include, Elf Business Energy and Elf at home will operate out of a regional office based in Redhill, Surrey.

The new organisation will have approximately 450 staff, based between the three sites.
