Hutchinson, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TotalFinaElf has signed an agreement to acquire the American company Barry Wright Corp., a subsidiary of the US group Applied Power, based in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The acquisition is expected to be definitive by early July.

Barry Wright Corp., with 1999 sales of $120 million, is a major player in the mechanical application of elastomeric products for the aerospace and industry markets.

This acquisition is in line with the rapid development of a complete range of activities worldwide in the areas of aerospace, rail and industry. Hutchinson thus becomes the equipment manufacturer offering the widest range of elastomeric products (anti-vibration isolation, fluid transfer, sealing, seals, sealants and adhesives) as well as display devices and onboard communications equipment.

The acquisition will strengthen Hutchinson’s already leading position in this market in Europe. The new group will be a world leader in this sector and the only manufacturer with a significant presence on both sides of the Atlantic.
