Jan. 21, 00

On January 19, TOTALFINA officially submitted to the European competition authorities the commitments proposed as part of its planned merger with Elf Aquitaine. The proposals were determined with the European competition authorities following several weeks of negotiations.

The commitments concern certain marketing operations in France. They include the sale of:
- 70 of the service stations owned by TOTALFINA and Elf located on the highways in France.
- Interests in oil pipelines and finished product storage depots.
- Certain liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) logistics and marketing assets, and the opening of the supply infrastructure for the Lyon and Toulouse airports.

The submission of these proposed commitments represents a key step in the European competition authorities' review of the proposed TOTALFINA-Elf Aquitaine merger. A decision is expected by not later than mid-February.
