Print
Oct. 08, 98
The exploration campaign on Block 14 offshore Cabinda, Angola has recorded a successful new discovery, the fourth, at a water depth of approximately 350 meters. TOTAL owns a 20% interest in Block 14, in association with Chevron (operator, with 31%), Sonangol (20%), AGIP (20%) and Petrogal (9%).

The D14-10X well on the fourth structure, known as Belize, neighboring the Benguela one, has yielded a cumulative flow of more than 10,000 barrels per day (b/d) of 37.5ˇ API crude. By the end of the year, this very promising test will be followed by the drilling of an appraisal well to confirm the new discoveryŐs potential.

The discovery follows that of the giant Kuito structure, also on Block 14, in April 1997 and of two other structures, Landana in December 1997 and Benguela in July 1998, which are currently being evaluated. Production at Kuito is scheduled to begin in the second half of 1999, with phase one output expected to reach a level of 100,000 b/d.

Elsewhere in Angola, TOTAL is operator, with a 40% interest, of Block 2/92, where exploration work is continuing. The Group also owns a 27.5% interest in Block 2/80-85, operated by Texaco. Current production is approximately 100,000 b/d.
