| In Europe the prevalence rate for law back pain is approximately 10 % of the general population (38 Million patients). 20 - 30 % of patients visiting general practitioners are back pain patients. In many countries it is the leading cause of sick leave from work, amounting to enormous indirect costs (e.g. 21.4 billion DM in Germany). Furthermore, an additional 3 - 5 % of the European population suffers from cervical pain (prevalence rate).
The MUSCLE SPASM EUROPEAN EXPERT GROUP was created in 1992 with the support of Sanofi to improve physiopathologic and clinical knowledge about muscular spasm and its treatment.
One of the objectives of the Muscle Spasm European Expert Group is to reward original work on Muscle Spasm which significantly contributes to knowledge on the subject. The award is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Sanofi.
This year the Muscle Spasm European Expert Group in collaboration with Sanofi will remit the 4th Muscle Spasm European Expert Group Award for the amount of FRF 70 000 / Euros 10 770. The theme is "Muscle Spasm and Pain".
