Elf Petroland, the Dutch oil and gas subsidiary of Elf Aquitaine, announces the discovery of two new gas fields in the Dutch sector of the North Sea for the following association:
Elf Petroland B.V., operator 17.37% Energie Beheer Nederland B.V. 50.00% Dyas B.V. 11.66% Talisman Energy (UK) LTD 10.25% Total Oil and Gas Nederland B.V. 8.69% Eurafrep Nederland B.V. 1.16% Corexland B.V. 0.87%
The first of these fields, K4-E, which was discovered in January 1998, will be developed in association with other fields in the area.
The second field, K5-G, was discovered in April of this year from a production platform and came on stream May 2, less than one month after its discovery. It has a daily production rate of 1.3 million cubic meters. The gas has been sold to Gasunie.
The two discoveries, the 11th and 12th consecutive successes realized by Elf Petroland in this zone, confirm both the area's potential for gas and Elf's skill in exploring it.
Elf Petroland is a major player in the exploration and production of gas in the Netherlands. It operates seven production centers: four, supplied by 24 platforms, are offshore and three onshore.
Two new other onshore gas fields were brought into production in early 1998.
Elf Petroland has an operated production of eight billion cubic meters and is the Elf Group's largest producer of natural gas and the second largest operator in the Netherlands. These new discoveries will enable the company to maintain its positions during the coming years.
