Alternative Energy

A long-term vision

In the long run, oil and gas resources will not be enough to meet skyrocketing global energy demand. The tragic accident in Fukushima, Japan, which happened following a tsunami, will certainly lead to a huge questioning about taking into account the natural disaster probabilities when building and selecting the location of nuclear power plants.
However, the nuclear power remains an option which allows meeting the growing energy needs.
For Total, it is even a key component of the future energy mix, since the nuclear power is a low-CO2 emission energy.

Armed with this conviction — and drawing on our recognized experience in managing large projects with a high technology content — we are forging ahead in the sector, with the goals of long term operating nuclear power plants and expanding the range of energy solutions we offer.

Nuclear power is a long-term commitment for Total, one that requires us to acquire the capabilities and expertise necessary to develop nuclear power safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. To that end, we have already created partnerships with well-known, longstanding nuclear industry operators.
