Our Commitments and Improvement Indicators

We aim to operate sustainably and have an active and positive presence in all our host countries – in such varied areas as safety, health, climate, the environment and shared development. We were among the first in the industry to publish measurable improvement objectives.

OUR COMMITMENTS AND IMPROVEMENT INDICATORS

Safety and Health

At Total, being committed to better energy means, first and foremost, ensuring the safety of our employees, facilities and products. It is also about protecting the health of every person associated with our activities, whether directly or indirectly.

(1) TRIR (total recordable injury rate): the number of recorded incidents per million hours worked.

(2) Figure from Total's annual study, Panorama Social Mondial (PSM), using a representative sample of the Group's consolidated scope.

Climate

Climate issues are an integral part of our corporate strategic vision. We aim to help keep global warming below 2°C in relation to preindustrial levels by 2100 thanks to three levers: improving the carbon intensity of our current production mix, developing renewable energies and improving our energy efficiency.

Local environment

We have made it a requirement to meet the highest environmental standards. Our aim is to constantly improve the environmental performance of our facilities and our products.

(1) SO2: sulfur dioxide, which is produced by the combustion of fossil fuels.

(2) Natural sites inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as at June 4, 2013.

(3) Sites located in protected areas, including those of IUCN categories I to IV and the Ramsar Convention.

Shared Development

We believe that development can only be sustainable if it is shared, which is why our development model is based on making an active, positive contribution at the local level.
