Preserving the Environment

The Total Ecosolutions process

Leveraging innovation to serve continuous improvement, the Total Ecosolutions program is aimed at developing products and services to help our customers — both businesses and consumers — reduce their energy use and/or their environmental footprint.

The Total Ecosolutions logo

Introduced in 2009 in Europe, Total Ecosolutions is a flagship program to promote smarter, more frugal energy consumption. It offers our customers innovative solutions that perform above market environmental standards, by curbing natural resource use and/or environmental impact while providing the same level of service.

Designing Energy Efficient Solutions to Meet Customer Expectations

The program satisfies a growing demand on the part of consumers, who want to control their use and shrink their environmental footprint. Right now the transportation, housing and industry sectors are responsible for most of the greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas, or nearly a third of global emissions.

Catalyzing Our Innovation Efforts

Introduced in 2009, the program today encompasses 32 different products and services. Other products and services are in the final stage of the labeling process.

We will be gradually adding more solutions, all designed to help our customers continuously improve their energy efficiency and/or reduce their environmental impact.

According to our estimates, based on a comparison with reference products and services in the European market offering an equivalent outcome for the customer, the use of Total Ecosolutions products and services avoided 749,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2010 (estimate based on sales in 2010), That is the amount emitted by 75,000 European Union residents in one year¹.

Broadening the Total Ecosolutions Line

The Total Ecosolutions line will gradually expand: new products and services are regularly submitted for labeling. Eligible solutions are evaluated using a rigorous method that complies with the principles of the international ISO 14020 and 14021 standards for environmental labels and declarations. The guidelines and, in most cases, the process for labeling each product or service are audited by an outside firm, Ernst & Young.
