Meeting Energy Demand
Optimizing our energy use
Making the most of oil and gas also means using them more efficiently. We are committed to using less energy and helping our customers do the same. Our aim is to commoditize, wherever possible, a valuable energy resource.

Enhancing the Energy Efficiency of Our Facilities
In all our businesses worldwide, we are deploying significant efforts to enhance the energy efficiency of our facilities. The aim is to use less to achieve the same result.
Our objective is to boost energy efficiency in our facilities by 1 to 2% a year, depending on the business segment, by 2012.

For several years now, we have been developing energy-saving products and services for each of our markets. The program satisfies a growing demand on the part of consumers, who want to control their use and shrink their environmental footprint. All of our innovation capabilities and expertise are harnessed to this end.
In 2009, we introduced the Total Ecosolutions program to further strengthen the process. It offers our customers innovative solutions that curb natural resource use and/or environmental impact while providing the same level of service.

Commoditizing Associated Gas
Oil production is nearly always accompanied by the production of natural gas, known as associated gas.
Flaring of this gas accounts for nearly 30% of our greenhouse gas emissions.
We have made a commitment to cut flaring in half between 2005 and 2014.
