Driving Shared Development

Community Support

We are committed to providing assistance to particularly vulnerable populations in our host regions. We also support our employees in their volunteer projects.

Emergency Response, Long-Term Support

We are committed to providing material assistance very rapidly. We work with respected organizations to maximize the benefits of our actions and provide long-term support for reconstruction efforts and the resumption of activities.

In Japan, After the Earthquake and Tsunami

According to provisional figures, at least 17,000 people are dead or missing after the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.
Total has made a €1-million donation to the relief effort for victims of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan. The money is being donated via the French Red Cross to the Japanese Red Cross, which has deployed nearly 300 teams on the ground and organized shelter for more than 300,000 people.

In Haiti, After the Earthquake

On January 12, 2010, an earthquake in Haiti killed more than 200,000 people. We made an emergency donation of €1 million to the French Red Cross. A further €20,000 was allocated to Pompiers Sans Frontières [Firefighters Without Borders] to enable the French non-profit to immediately dispatch emergency teams to the disaster area. In addition, €30,000 was donated to CARE France, which has a long-established presence in the country. Total Caribbean teams in the French overseas departments responded immediately to help our subsidiary in Haiti, sending containers of essential supplies and equipment. Like the rest of the industry, Total Haiti worked to re-establish much-needed fuel and LPG supply to the country.
Many of our employees demonstrated their solidarity, which was channeled through the Total Solidarité association, set up by the Total Foundation in January 2010 to collect donations from employees wanting to support colleagues and their families. A special solidarity fund was immediately created for our Haitian colleagues, with Total matching the donations.

Employee Projects to Support the Community

The Total Foundation operates a program to support employee projects. International in scope, the program aims to encourage health, education, social and humanitarian projects in which employees are personally involved as volunteers outside the workplace. The Foundation has backed 280 projects, including 131 in Africa, since 2006.
