We are active in Norway in almost all of our business sectors. Our primary focus is on oil and gas exploration and production. We have interests in about a hundred production licenses, all of them offshore, making us the country’s No. 2 oil company.

Exploration & Production in Norway

Our local affiliate has interests in 97 production licenses, including 31 as operator. The licenses (main ones described below) are divided among four major geographic areas:
- The Southern North Sea, including the Greater Ekofisk Area (Ekofisk zone), most of which we do not operate. Four fields are in production; Ekofisk (39.9%) and Eldfisk (39.9%) are the largest of them.
- The Central and Northern North Sea, which are home to several production hubs, including Sleipner (West 9.4%, East 10%), Oseberg (14.7%), Troll (3.7%), Kvitebjorn (5%) and Visund (7.7%). A number of satellite fields are tied back to the hubs, such as Atla (40%, operator), Skirne (40%, operator), Tune (10%) and Stjerne (14.7%). The Martin Linge (51%, operator) and Gina Krog (30%,15% in the process of being sold) fields are under development.
- The Norwegian Sea (Haltenbanken area), which has several fields in production, including Tyrihans (23.2%), Kristin (6%), Åsgard (7.7 %) et Mikkel (7.7 %).
- The Barents Sea, with the Snøhvit, Albatross and Askeladd fields (18.4% all three). Gas from the Snøhvit area is piped via a 160-kilometer-long line to the liquefaction plant (18.4%) in Melkøya, near Hammerfest, then exported by LNG carrier.

Gas and Power in Norway

Total has an 18.4% interest in the Snøhvit liquefaction plant. We purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the plant under a long-term sale and purchase contract. We market the LNG in North America and Western Europe.
