Université Total: Investing in Africa

01/13/2017

Africa plays a central role in our ambition. We have operated in Africa for more than 80 years, in 44 countries and in all of our businesses. We are the continent's No. 1 energy major, producing 247 million barrels of oil equivalent there in 2015. Each day, our 4,200 service stations serve two million customers and our goal is to achieve a 20% share of the market.

At a time when Total is incorporating climate into its strategy, Université Total decided to look at how African countries are integrating climate-related challenges into their energy policies. What opportunities have COP 21 and COP 22 created for investors, and what obstacles remain? What role can a major energy company like Total play in this environment?

Last month, Université Total launched the debate with three distinguished guests: Seyni Nafo, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators for COP 22; Amadou Hott, Vice-President of the African Development Bank; and Sidi Khalifou, a Mauritanian entrepreneur specialized in access to water and electricity from renewable sources.

Take a look at what they had to say in our video.
