Total rewarded for its communication with its employee shareholders

Total, for its first “Grand Prix de l’Actionnariat Salarié” (Employee Shareholding Contest), received the Special Prize “Communication with the employee shareholders”.

This “Grand Prix”, organized by the French Federation of Employee shareholders' Associations (FAS), rewards the companies of the CAC 40 index, the SBF 250 index and the unlisted companies for their best practices of employee shareholding. Classification is made from a questionnaire filled by the companies willing to participate in the contest.

François Viaud, Senior Vice President Human Resources of Total, welcomes this award: "we are proud to receive this Prize which rewards the deployment of a sustained communication with our employees to support our employee shareholding development policy. We created and now lead a network of 500 correspondents in 125 countries to answer to the questions of our employee shareholders, with a substantial involvement of the management.”

These employee shareholding plans associate the employees with the Group’s performance and strengthen the sense of belonging. Educational information is regularly sent to them in France and abroad. In 2010, the communication on the 25 free shares granted to each employee was translated into 23 languages. The Group also has an intranet dedicated to the employee savings and shareholding plans and communicates information about its employee shareholding policy and projects under the heading "Employee Shareholders" on the Company’s web site www.total.com..

As of December 31, 2011, the employees of the Group held nearly 93 million of TOTAL shares, representing 4.37% of the Company’s share capital and 7.72% of the voting rights that could be exercised at the shareholders’ meeting.
