Employee Shareholders
In 2011, Total proposed a capital increase reserved for the Group’s employees of up to 12 million shares.
By regularly carrying out capital increases reserved for employees, Total offers the opportunity to its employees to buy TOTAL shares with a discount. Thus, the Group wishes to develop the employee shareholding and to allow the employees to understand better the basics of the company.
In 2010, Total implemented a free share plan to the employees. More than 100,000 employees in 124 countries received rights to 25 shares each on June 30, 2010. For the countries concerned with a 2-years vesting period, the employees will receive their shares on July1st, 2012.
This grants had an exceptional scope, intended to strengthen employees’ sense of belonging to the Group and associate them with the Group’s performance.
Furthermore, Total leads general stock options and restricted shares grant plans that aim at keeping in developing the employee shareholding on the basis of individual performances and encouraging motivation and fidelity of employees.
In 2011, 10,000 employees of all occupational categories received stock options and/or restricted shares. In order to ensure a broad diffusion of the system, Total aims at ensuring an important renewal of beneficiaries for each grant (38% new beneficiaries in 2011). When combined with previous plans, more than 23,300 employees in over 120 countries have benefited from these plans.
Thanks to these various tools, the employees of Total can be more closely associated to the Group financial performances and benefit from their commitment.
