Three Major Business Segments Total’s worlwide operations are conducted through three business segments: Upstream, Downstream and Chemicals. - Upstream includes oil and gas exploration and production, Gas & Power and other energy sources. - Downstream covers refining and marketing, along with trading and shipping. - Chemicals comprises various activities, including Base Chemicals (Petrochemicals, and Fertilizers) and Specialties for industry and the consumer market. The operating segments of the Group are assisted by centralized corporate functions: Finance, Legal, Ethics, Insurance, Strategy and Risk Assessment, Human Resources and Corporate Communications.
The Executive Committee and the Management Committee The Executive Committee (COMEX) is the primary decision-making body of the Group. It implements the strategy formulated by the Board of Directors and authorizes related investments.
The Management Committee (CODIR) of the Group facilitates coordination among the divisions and monitors the operating results and activity reports of these Divisions.
