PetroFina: More than 80 Years of History

    February 25, 1920: An Antwerp-based group of investors founds Compagnie Financière Belge des Pétroles, which soon changes its name to PetroFina - its telegraph address.

It is initially involved in the exploration, production and refining of oil in Romania through the Concordia company.
 
       

  May 1920: PetroFina and Pure Oil of Delaware create Purfina to market petroleum products in Belgium and the Netherlands.
 
In 1923, Purfina becomes a wholly-owned PetroFina subsidiary.
   
     

    Kerosene, packaged in the Antwerp warehouse, is sold in bottles in grocery stores and accounts for a large share of Purfina's market.

In 1923,
operations expand to include automotive lubricants, medicinal oils and edible products with the purchase of a plant and small refinery in Ertwelde.
