Bridging the vast distances between producing and consumer regions demands efficient transportation solutions. As an active, involved stakeholder, we are helping to develop the necessary infrastructure worldwide.
Natural gas is first processed, then shipped to its point of use via high-pressure gas pipelines. Total has helped to develop some gas transmission infrastructures worldwide.
In the North Sea, we have invested in the construction of offshore gas gathering systems to export our production from the United Kingdom, Norway and the Netherlands. We also have interests in Western Europe’s main receiving terminals—St. Fergus in Scotland, Emden in Germany, Dunkirk in France, and Zeebrugge in Belgium.
TIGF, a 100% Total subsidiary, consolidates the Group's transport and storage activities in southwestern France since April 2005 and operates close to 5,000 kilometers of gas pipelines. One of 2007 landmarks was the start-up of on-site work on the Guyenne trunk main line, a project to increase the flow of natural gas on the TIGF network.
In Spain, Cepsa Gaz Comercializadora (in which Total has a 35% interest) is part of the Medgaz project, a pipeline connecting Algeria to Europe via Spain. Its 20% interest in the project represents an indirect interest of around 10% for Total.
In South America, Total has interests in several gas tranmission companies in Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
