Sonangol, the Angolan national oil company, concessionary, and Elf, the operator in the continuation of the exploration of block 17, announce a new oil discovery on the well Lirio 1.
This discovery adds to the Girassol, Dalia and Rosa discoveries already made between 1996 and 1998 on this block.
Lirio 1, drilled in 1,365 meters of water, is located 32 kilometers NW of Girassol. It is the fifth wildcat on this block.
Production tests carried out gave a flow rate of 11,000 barrels per day of a good quality oil.
Further work is necessary before a development scheme is determined.
This new success confirms the great oil potential of block 17 already demonstrated by the official launching of the Girassol development, on July 8th, 1998.
Elf's recent deep offshore successes are particularly significant in Angola thanks to the quality of their teams and the excellent cooperation with their joint venture partners and Sonangol.
