  • When the amounts of hydrocarbons to be treated are too great or climate conditions too harsh, nature needs assistance in the form of artificial stimulation of biodegradation.
Inipol, a product developed by Total, was in particular used in Russia to remediate a vast tundra area polluted by hydrocarbons. The first phase of the treatment, begun in summer 2002 by Total, has produced satisfactory results. Soil pollution measured over a depth of 20 centimeters decreased by 76% between August 2002 and September 2003. Through a transfer of our expertise and technology, our Russian partner company can continue the treatment to repaire the damage caused by overproduction of Russian fields at the end of the Soviet era.
