  • For more than ten years, Total’s Specialty Fluids Department has been producing drilling fluids for oil-based muds, which are mainly used offshore to lubricate and cool drillbits, bring cuttings up to the surface, and balance pressure between the reservoir and the surface.
Responding to extreme drilling requirements, new fluids have been developed. To meet environmental and safety standards, they were designed in close cooperation with environmental authorities to ensure that they are as biodegradable as possible, have low ecotoxicity and a minor environmental impact, and comply with labor legislation.
