Freshwater withdrawal and discharges, excluding cooling water (millions of cubic meters per year)

E&P: The graph differentiates between withdrawals of freshwater (less than 1.5 grams of salt per liter) for assisted injection water (13.2 million cubic meters) and other water (in particular process water: 14.5 million cubic meters). Total water discharges of 75.6 million cubic meters include production water (up 18% to 61 million cubic meters), but do not include reinjection water (up 7% to 33 million cubic meters). This sharp increase is mainly due to higher activity and aging reservoirs. G&P: Sharp increase in withdrawals and discharges due to gas pipeline construction. Refining: Withdrawals down due to improved metering and lower recycling. Chemicals: Target reduction of 10% decrease in withdrawals met (2007 versus 2002).
Hydrocarbon discharges in effluent (ppm)

E&P: Continued improvement thanks to the site improvement program begun in 2002. The average target of 30 ppm was achieved at end-2007. Refining: Increase due to a water stripper malfunction at the Normandy refinery in France, responsible for more than one-third of Refining discharges in 2007. A priority upgrade will be carried out in 2008.

Hazardous waste treated offsite (thousands of metric tons per year)

Hazardous waste from routine operations stable since 2005 at around 270 ktons. Refining: Increase in hazardous waste from routine operations due to treatment of spent caustic soda and a sharp decrease in special waste treated offsite.
Oil spills (over 159 liters) in cubic meters 2007 total volume: 2,318.5 cubic meters
