Climate issues are an integral part of our corporate strategic vision, aimed at keeping global warming below 2°C in relation to pre industrial levels by 2100. We have a responsibility to provide safe and affordable energy to as many people as possible, while managing energy consumption and the related emissions. This is the meaning behind our ambition of becoming the responsible energy major.
Improving the carbon intensity of our energy mix
To combat climate change without curbing economic and social development, the carbon intensity of the fossil fuel mix must be reduced. At Total, this is one of the three key focuses of our climate strategy.
Contributing to the development of new energies is as much a strategic choice as an industrial responsibility. We are investing in solar power and biomass, with the aim of increasing the share of low-carbon businesses in our portfolio to around 20% in 20 years’ time.
Producing the same amount with less energy is what the energy efficiency challenge is all about. In response, we are encouraging our customers to use our products responsibly and making our facilities more energy efficient.
