Exploration & Production in Brazil

  • We operate, with a 41.2% interest, the Xerelete field (bloc BC-2), which lies 250 kilometers off Rio de Janeiro.
  • We have a 20% interest in the consortium that is developing the Libra oil field, in the very prolific Santos Basin, 170 kilometers off Rio de Janeiro. This ultra-deep offshore pre-salt reservoir, located in a water depth of 2,000 meters, has considerable production potential.
  • We also have 18 exploration licenses.

Gas and Power in Brazil

Bolivia’s San Alberto and San Antonio fields, in which we are a partner (15%) alongside Petrobras, supply the Brazilian market. The gas is mainly delivered to Brazil's southeastern provinces via the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline, owned and operated by Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolivia-Brasil (TBG), in which we indirectly hold an interest of 9.7%. Total supplies around 10% of the gas transported by this pipeline.

We are also a partner of the Transportadora Sul Brasileira de Gas (TSB) gas pipeline project, which currently consists of two 25-kilometer sections. One supplies Argentine gas to the Uruguaiana power plant; the other, Bolivian gas to the Copesul chemical complex.

In addition, Total sells liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes − from its production in Nigeria and Norway − in the spot market to national oil company Petrobras.

Refining & Chemicals in Brazil

Polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and styrene monomer make up the bulk of our petrochemical sales in Brazil.

In specialty chemicals, our affiliate Hutchinson has five plants, developing and manufacturing precision sealing, anti-vibration, body sealing, fluid transfer and belt drive systems, mainly for the automotive market, but also for the industry and home appliance sectors.
