Working with Scientists

Scientific experience with a microscope
A number of external research teams are currently studying the impact of maritime pollution on marine ecosystems. On November 20 and 21, 2003, nearly 200 scientists, members of environmental protection associations and environmental regulators attended a post-Erika conference ("After Erika: Monitoring the Marine Environment") held in Nantes by the French Research Institute for Ocean Exploitation (IFREMER).

Total is monitoring this research and working with scientists to analyze the environmental impact of the Erika shipwreck. These efforts are feeding a reference database that will provide clearer insights into the consequences of offshore oil spills and how to deal with them.
