Supply & Marketing: serving our local customers around the world
The Supply & Marketing business organizes the sale of refined products. Our product offer is adapted to our various markets across the world and designed to satisfy the needs of Total customers.
A dynamic commercial business
Total’s Supply & Marketing business is dedicated to supplying and marketing petroleum products. It covers:- retail activities at service stations (for light vehicles and trucks);
- general trade in automotive fuels, biofuels, home heating and heavy fuel oil, lubricants, LPG, asphalt, aviation fuel and special fluids.
Showcasing our distribution and sales strength, the Supply & Marketing business is developing its activities in line with several objectives. We aim to maintain our commercial competitiveness, consolidate our positions in mature regions and establish lasting operations in growth markets. This business is constantly innovating to offer new products and services to meet the specific needs of our customers (private individuals, refiners, racing teams, etc.).
In 2011, the sale of Total petroleum products represented 3.6 million barrels per day.
An international distribution network
On the ground, the distribution network for Total automotive fuels covers more than 15,000 service stations and serves around 3 million customers each day.
We have retail outlets and logistical facilities, including speciality products, in more than 150 countries. Our network has developed across all five continents:
- Total is the number one distributor in Africa with 14% of market share in petroleum product distribution.
- The Groupe is also one of the principal distributors in Europe (9,400 service stations in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy).
- Finally, Total is present in some twenty countries in the Asia-Pacific region and another twenty in the Americas, mainly marketing speciality products (lubricants, LPG, etc.).
Solutions adapted to the needs of local customers
In every region of the world, the Supply & Marketing organizes the sale of products to meet local requirements. In October 2011, we introduced Total access stations in France, featuring quality products and services at low prices. In Jordan, we launched Rapid Oil Change garages offering the full range of Total lubricants, which are very popular among local customers. In the United Arab Emirates, Total supplies Dubai’s new Jebel Ali Airport, which is soon expected to become the largest in the world.
In 2012 we will be opening our first technical assistance centre devoted to specialist products. Located in India, the centre aims to adapt our products – lubricants, special fluids, bitumen, additives and special automotive fuels, etc. – to the specifications of customer demand in the Asia-Pacific region, in conjunction with the Solaize Research Centre in France.
