Australia
Purchased interests in two exploration blocks in deep-offshore
northwest of Australia (30% of exploration Block WA-269-P
and 50% of exploration Block WA-297-P).
 
Mauritania
Two production sharing contracts signed with the Mauritanian State
on Oil Blocks Ta7 and Ta8, located in the Taoudenni Basin in the
northeastern part of the country.
 
Nigeria
New hydrocarbon discovery in the western zone of the Usan field,
under deepwater prospecting license OPL 222.
 
Trinidad & Tobago
The Grand Angostura oil field brought on stream (TOTAL, 30%).
 
 
February
 
Marocco
Temasol (jointly owned by TOTAL, Électricité de France and TOTAL Énergie)
again chosen to equip 37,000 additional households with solar energy.
 
Qatar
Heads of agreement signed for the acquisition by TOTAL
of a 16.7% interest in train II of Qatargas 2 and the purchase by
TOTAL of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Qatargas 2 project.
 
 
Yemen
Three heads of agreement signed by Yemen LNG (TOTAL, 42.9%)
for the sale of LNG and for issuing calls for tenders on two
liquefaction trains.
 
 
March
 
China
Approval from the Chinese authorities to form a joint venture with
Sinochem to create a 200-service stations retail network.
 
 
Kazakhstan
Agreement signed for the sale by TOTAL of a 1.85% interest
in the North Caspian permit to KazMunayGas, the state-owned oil
company of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Following completion of the
sale, TOTAL holds an 18.5% interest in the permit.
 
Romania
Formation of the company TOTAL Lubrifin.
 
 
April
 
Cameroon
The Dissoni exploration block obtained in the offshore basin
of Rio Del Rey (TOTAL operator, 50%).
 
India
The Hazira LNG (liquefied natural gas) regasification terminal
was inaugurated in the State of Gujarat on the northwest coast of
India. TOTAL has a 26% interest in the three companies behind the
project, in charge of port management, terminal operations and gas
sales and marketing, respectively.
 
United Kingdom
Approval given to develop the Forvie North gas and condensate field
located around 440 kilometers northeast of Aberdeen, on Block 3/15,
in the UK North Sea (TOTAL operator, 100%).
 
 
 
May
 
Canada
TOTAL raises to 50% its interest in the Surmont permit (oil sands).
 
France
TOTAL adds to its interest in TOTAL Energie, a company
which specializes in photovoltaic solar energy, raising it to 50%.
The company changes its name to TENESOL.
Agreement signed with Sofiprotéol and Diester Industrie to develop
biodiesel. This agreement reflects both the plan to expand biofuels
and TOTAL's wish to meet the growing needs of the diesel market.
 
Nigeria
Development starts on the Akpo gas and condensate field (TOTAL
operator, 24%). Akpo is located around 200 kilometers off the coast
of Port Harcourt, at depths of between 1,100 and 1,700 meters.
 
Norway
Hydrocarbons discovered on the Onyx SW prospect (TOTAL, 20%)
located in the Sea of Norway in the Haltenbanken region, around
150 kilometers from the coast at a depth of 300 meters.

Angola
Fourth oil discovery in ultra-deep offshore on Block 32 (TOTAL operator, 30%).
 
Argentina
The Carina-Aries gas fields in Terra del Fuego brought on stream
(TOTAL operator, 37.5%).
 
 
Spain
A 10% interest purchased in a pilot project off the coast of Santona,
on the northern coast of Spain, aimed at developing a new segment,
wave energy.
 
Nigeria
A 40% interest purchased in Block OPL 215.
 
Russia
TOTAL and Gazprom sign a Memorandum of Understanding
on the plan to develop the giant Shtokman gas field located in the Barents Sea.
 
 
July
 
Finland
Memorandum of Understanding signed with Neste Oil, a Finnish oil
company, to study the possibility of building with TOTAL a new
generation biodiesel production unit. The unit would be located in
Europe at one of TOTAL's refineries.
 
Italy
Memorandum of Understanding signed to acquire Shell's 20% stake
in Raffineria di Roma S.p.A., which owns the Rome refinery.
This means the Group would own 71.9% of it.
At the same time, TOTAL sold to Shell its 18% stake in Compagnie
Rhénane de Raffinage S.A., which owns the Reichstett refinery in France.
 
Nigeria
EPNL, the Group's Nigerian subsidiary, signs a production sharing
agreement with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for
the prospecting license OPL 223, located in deep-offshore, southeast
of Nigeria.
 
 
August
 
Canada
Agreement to acquire 100% of Deer Creek Energy Limited,
a Canadian company that owns an 84% stake in the Joslyn permit,
located in the Athabasca region (in the Canadian province of Alberta).
The Joslyn project, which will be developed in several phases, should
reach total production of around 2 billion barrels of bitumen over
athirty-year period.
 
Nigeria
A further extension of the discovery in deepwater Usan (TOTAL, 20%)
and approval of the development plan by NNPC the license-holder.
 
Congo
Start-up of phase 1 of the Moho-Bilondo project (TOTAL operator, 53.5%).
 
Yemen
Development of Yemen LNG begins. The liquefaction plant will
include two trains with a total capacity of 6.7 million metric tons per year.
TOTAL (39.6%) is managing the project.

Africa
TOTAL acquires ExxonMobil’s retail subsidiaries in 14 African countries.
These subsidiaries manage a network of around 500 service stations
and 29 terminals and depots.
 
China
Second joint-venture plan between TOTAL and Sinochem
to form a retail network of 300 service stations in the provinces
of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, in eastern China.
 
United States
Purchase of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s hydrocarbon
resins business finalized.
 
France
TOTAL announces plans to invest 2.8 billion euros in refining
in France by the year 2010. With new capacities it should be possible
to produce 4 million additional metric tons of diesel, thus meeting the
growing demand for that product.
 
United Kingdom
Sales of the Group’s interest in the South Humber Bank power plant.
 
UK North Sea
Three production permits obtained. TOTAL will be the operator with a
100% interest in the two licenses covering Blocks 3/25b and 4/21 on
the one hand, and 8/14 and 8/15 on the other hand.
 
 
October
 
South Korea
Decision to boost the capacity of the Daesan petrochemical plant.
The total investment, close to 600 million dollars, covers the
modernization and expansion of facilities. It will also lead
to substantial energy savings.
 
Libya
Block 42 2/4 obtained (TOTAL operator, 60%), located in the Cyrenaic
basin, and a new oil discovery on Block NC 186 (TOTAL, 24%).
 
 
November
 
United States
Acquisition of a 17% interest in the Tahiti field, one of the main
deepwater fields in the Gulf of Mexico.
 
Libya
Sixth oil discovery on Block NC 186.
 
Nigeria
Production starts up at the Bonga offshore field (TOTAL, 12.5%).
 
Norway
The high pressure (900 bars) and high temperature (170°C) Kristin
offshore hydrocarbon field brought on stream as well as the first five
wells of the Ekofisk Area Growth project.
 
 
December
 
France
TOTAL is selected to build the largest onshore wind farm project in France.
Located in the south of France (Aveyron), it will consist of thirty latest-generation wind turbines, representing a total capacity of around 90 MW.
 
Norway
Four blocks obtained on the Norwegian continental shelf, including
two with operator status.
 
Philippines & United Kingdom
TOTAL boosts its adhesives business (Specialty Chemicals)
with the acquisition of Laybond (United Kingdom) and Global Brands
(Philippines).
