Development of targeted positions in Asia
In 2000, TotalFinaElf continued the selective development of its specialty product and network operations in Asia.
The Group operates several LPG storage and marketing companies, in Zhenjiang in China; in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Haiphong and Danang in Vietnam, where TotalFinaElf has an approximately 20% market share;, and in Cambodia, where it has a 35% market share. During the year, TotalFinaElf expanded its LPG operations in Mangalore in southern India and the Philippines with a stake in the Tabangao refrigerated LPG terminal. The Group also has interests in three other LPG companies in China, in Yantai, Shenzhen and Zhenjiang.
Similarly, TotalFinaElf operates several lubricant blending and marketing companies, two in China, in Guangdong and Zhenjiang; one in Vietnam, in Haiphong; and two in India, in Mumbai and Delhi.
In networks, the Group is expanding its presence and operates a network of 25 service stations in the Philippines and 23 retail outlets in Cambodia. Three new service stations were inaugurated in China, in Wuhan, in 2000.
Also in China, TotalFinaElf has a 20% stake in the Wepec refinery in Dalian, where the significant improvement in refining margins and the over 40% growth in processing operations contributed to the good results posted in 2000.
United States: integrated activities
In the United States, TotalFinaElf operates the Port Arthur refinery, which is integrated with the Group's petrochemical operations. The joint investment (40/60) by TotalFinaElf and BASF in a world-class steam cracker is part of the strategy to capitalize on integration.
Strong leadership in specialty products
TotalFinaElf is becoming a European leader in lubricants, aviation fuels, asphalts and special fluids. In Africa, the Group is also a leader in lubricants, aviation fuels and asphalts.
The Group is pursuing its international development strategy in its speciality prod-ucts, with a global presence in lubricants in 112 countries and in LPG in nearly 50 countries, with more than 75% of sales made outside France. It has avgas refueling points in 438 airports through-out the world.
Efficient integration of specialty product operations with refining enables the implementation of a dynamic growth policy for new high added-value and technology-intensive products. The Group has thus developed a range of special testing and racing fuels meeting the specific needs of its carmaker partners, is the world leader in drilling fluids, and offers innovative solutions with Elf fuel eco lubricants designed to cut fuel consumption. Its Ornital anti-rut and Styrelf asphalts, in addition, boast properties and performance that are outstanding in extreme service conditions.

TotalFinaElf is a European leader in the exploring for, producing and marketing special hydrocarbon fluids, with a wide range of products combining outstanding technical and environmental performance.
In Normandy, at Oudalle, the Group has a cutting-edge production facility in terms of quality, safety and environmental protection that has been certified ISO 9001 since 1992, ISO 14001 since 1997, and according to EAQF standards since 1998.
Since 1999, a Safety Management System (SMS) has also been developed and implemented, involving the staff of the plant as well as all contractors operating at the facility.
