The Group's production in Southeast Asia (197,000 boe/d, or 9.3% of total output) is now essentially focused on gas, from three countries: Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar. TotalFinaElf is the main supplier of gas for the Bontang liquefaction plant, which is the largest LNG complex in the world with eight trains and a production capacity of nearly 22 million tons a year.

In Indonesia, the subsidiary's production share came to 147,000 boe/d in 2000. The quantities of gas delivered to the Bontang plant rose to approximately 2.06 Bcf/d (up 22% from 1999). Excluding Bontang condensate, liquid hydrocarbon sales totaled 69,300 b/d (up 5% over 1999). In the Mahakam area, work concentrated on preparatory studies for the exploration and delineation operations scheduled for 2001-2002. The development of Tunu and Peciko continued, both to maintain the fields' potential and to prepare for the planned production boost in 2003. On the Tunu field, Phase 6 and Phase 7 were completed in 2000, involving respectively three satellites and installations to compress 850 Mcf/d in the southern part of the field. This was followed by the launch of Phase 8, which will add compression installations in the northern part of the field. On Peciko, Phase 2 was completed with a third platform, and Phase 3 was started for a fourth platform and a third processing train.

In Thailand, on the Bongkot field operated by PTT-EP (TotalFinaElf 33.3%), production averaged nearly 565 Mcf/d in 2000, which was 5% higher than contractually specified quantities.

In Myanmar, deliveries steadily increased throughout the year from the Yadana field (TotalFinaElf operator with 31.2%), reaching 460 Mcf/d by the end of 2000.
